Second Elakala Falls in Eerie Sunset Color
Second Elakala Falls in Eerie Sunset Color
The water level of Elakala Falls was too high to get a proper photograph following a just clearing major storm. The first and most visited of the falls was a crashing curtain of water that featured a heavy mist cloud that actually down poured water on the trail bridge above it. So instead I climbed around Shay Run and setup to photograph the second falls where there was still some definition despite the heavy water flow. I planned to photograph the falls at my favorite time of day to do that, dusk. While I was picture taking I noticed everything got a strange hue cast to it, and when I peered through the tree tops I seen the most brilliant sunset sky I may ever have witnessed. The entire sky was an eerie orange and red, as if it were on fire. That sky provided some beautiful color to this picture. Photo was taken on October 10, 2009, following a few more shots I raced to the Blackwater Lodge where I snapped some pictures of the last of that amazing sunset.
